The Cambridge Rivulettes used a dominant third-period performance to secure a 4-2 road victory over the Etobicoke Dolphins in a hard-fought U22 Elite matchup. The game was a tight-checking affair for the first two frames, with both teams trading goals. Etobicoke’s Sydney Bowness, assisted by Spencer Vaccari, opened the scoring late in the second period to give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead. Cambridge responded quickly, however, as Ella Neil found the back of the net with help from Sadie D’Angela to knot the game at 1-1 heading into the final intermission.
The third period belonged to the visitors, who seized control with a relentless offensive push. Sadie D’Angela turned from playmaker to scorer, putting Cambridge ahead 2-1 with assists from Emersyn Miller and Lacey Rivers. The Rivulettes then capitalized on special teams to extend their lead. Despite taking a penalty, Cambridge’s Emersyn Miller scored a crucial shorthanded goal, which stood as the game-winner, to make it 3-1. Etobicoke showed a flash of life on the same power play, with Sofia Ismael scoring a shorthanded marker of her own off a feed from Adrianna Milani to cut the deficit to 3-2. The Dolphins pressed hard in the final minutes, outshooting Cambridge 14-15 in the period, but Rivulettes goalie Addison Mitchell stood tall when called upon. With the net empty, Cambridge’s Micah Carswell sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the final minute.
The game featured a physical edge with six minor penalties called, including two on Cambridge’s Maryn Broderick. Etobicoke’s Maija St-Pierre faced a barrage of 39 shots in the loss, making several key saves to keep her team close. For Cambridge, the victory was a full-team effort, with the penalty kill delivering a critical goal and Addison Mitchell providing a steady presence in net to backstop the win. The Rivulettes’ ability to strike at even strength, shorthanded, and into an empty net proved the difference in a well-earned road triumph.
